Congratulations to all our A and AS level students
Created: Sat 21st Aug 10 at 15:14:54, Last Update: Tue 24th Aug 10 at 10:09:28

Congratulations to all our students on achieving some excellent A-level results this year. Our 244 upper sixth students achieved 978 A-level pass grades, and when these were combined with their AS results the average number of passes was almost 4.9 per student (AS grades counting half).

There were 100% pass rates in almost all subjects and the quality of grades achieved was high. Excluding general studies, 85% of results were at grade C or better and 71.4% of these grades were either A*,A or B. There were some outstanding individual performances. Fifty students achieved 3 or more grade A* or A passes, thirty-five students achieved 4 or more grade A* or A passes and fourteen students achieved a remarkable 5 A* or A-grades. Sixty four students, between them, amassed an impressive total of 232 A* or A grades.

Particular congratulations go to Lewis Bartlett, David Lukic, Yajur Shah and Emma Stirk on achieving 4 A* grades.

The average UCAS points score, at 446.7 is our best ever performance and means that the vast majority of our year 13 students have secured places at University. These results reflect a tremendous amount of dedication by the students and staff and represent rich reward for all their hard work - well done!

Former HGS student to captain Yorkshire
Created: Thu 7th Jan 10 at 19:53:47

YORKSHIRE County Cricket Club has appointed former HGS student Andrew Gale as their new captain for next season.

The 26-year-old batsman was unveiled as Yorkshire's sixth captain after Anthony McGrath confirmed he was to step down from the post to "concentrate on scoring runs again".

Andrew is tasked with leading England's most successful county out of a period of underachievement which has seen them narrowly avoid relegation from the County Championship in three of the last four seasons. He was named Yorkshire player of the year in 2009, scoring 828 runs in the championship and 689 in the three limited-overs competitions.

This summer he was also selected for higher honours, making his debut for England Lions against Australia in August and winning selection to this winter's England Performance Programme.

Work Placements Urgently Required!
Created: Wed 18th Nov 09 at 13:36:28

At Heckmondwike Grammar School we view work related learning as an important introduction to the world of work and an opportunity for pupils to observe and develop qualities and skills valued by employers.

During the recent economic downturn, finding good quality placements has become increasingly difficult. Therefore I would be grateful if you could consider asking the organisation you work for if they would be able to provide a placement for one of our students.

If you think you, the company you work for or any personal contacts may be able to offer a placement, please complete in the attached form and send it to the Careers Department.

Alternatively, please email the details to careers@heckgrammar.kirklees.sch.uk
