Work Placements Urgently Required!

At Heckmondwike Grammar School we view work related learning as an important introduction to the world of work and an opportunity for pupils to observe and develop qualities and skills valued by employers.

During the recent economic downturn, finding good quality placements has become increasingly difficult. Therefore I would be grateful if you could consider asking the organisation you work for if they would be able to provide a placement for one of our students.

If you think you, the company you work for or any personal contacts may be able to offer a placement, please complete in the attached form and send it to the Careers Department.

New extra-curricular sporting opportunities for HGS students

Sports Co-ordinator Mrs Swann, is looking to recruit students from throughout years 7 -13 to take part in a variety of lunchtime and after school sporting activities which have been organised in addition to the traditional team games. Opportunities range from golf to aerobics/pilates and are all delivered by qualified coaches. A full list is given below. If your son/daughter is interested then they should contact/e-mail Mrs Swann in the PE department by the end of Friday 20th November.

HGS mathematicians win through to National Final

UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge

The HGS senior Maths team of Michael Godfrey, Joel Stead, Josie Smith and John Tarrant entered into the regional heats of the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge, held at Leeds University on Monday 9th November. The team performed consistently well over all three rounds and emerged victorious! They will now go forward to represent our region in the National Finals, to be held in London in February.

Shakespeare Schools' Festival

Congratulations to members of the drama club who, under the direction of drama teacher Ms Stott, staged an outstanding performance of Macbeth at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on Friday 6th November. The production, which was part of the Shakespeare Schools' Festival, involved over thirty students from year 8 to year 12. Feedback on the performance from the RSC praised in particular the very high quality of the acting and the excellent staging. Year 9 students will have an opportunity to see the production on Thursday afternoon.

HGS Website Gets Signed Encryption!

All HGS Internet facilities that use a secure connection are now encrypted using a certificate from GlobalSign.

This provides certified encryption of our web pages so that visitors can feel secure in our on-line environments.
